Stroud's Congregational history began in the late 17th century, starting secretly in a barn and moving to the purpose-built "Old Meeting" in Chapel Street around 1710, eventually building the larger Bedford Street Chapel (1837) to ease overcrowding under Rev. John Burder.
The church building is right next to Stroud Subscription Rooms (the'i' on the map) and Fawkes Place.
